WHERE To Pray For Others?

St. John Chrysostom

"It is possible to offer fervent prayer even while walking in public or strolling alone, or seated in your shop, . . . while buying or selling, . . . or even while cooking."

You can pray for people literally anywhere and everywhere!

Your neighborhood where you live!

Supermarkets

Local shopping malls

Beaches

Public transportation like trains and buses

Cemetaries

For those who are home bound

Due to certain limitations, you may not be able to visit many of the places listed above. Don't be discouraged. Look for other ways to be around people.

  • If you have a porch, you can sit out on it, and as people pass by, ask the Lord to put prayers on your heart for them, and offer those up.
  • If you are in a hospital or long-term care facility, you can pray for those who are caretakers,  you can pray for your 'neighbors' in surrounding rooms, and you can pray for those passing by your door.

The point is to 'work the garden' the Lord has you in currently. The harvest is great but the laborers are few.

Frequently Asked Questions

Matthew 9:37-38  “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.””

If you can, why not start by walking around the neighborhood. It's the "garden" the Lord has you in right now. You may already know some of your neighbors, but have you prayed for them? Take a 15 minute walk. Ask the Lord to give you a heart for the people who live close to you. If you see someone while walking, offer a short and sincere prayer for them. Thank the Lord for the opportunity to pray for them. The more you do walk like that, the more you will look forward to praying for people you meet, and also praying for people who live in particular homes. If you are doing it humbly and with charity towards others, God's peace will grow in your heart. You'll find yourself wanting to stay out longer and maybe walk further. Don't be surprised if you are given an opportunity to speak with people and offer them hope and a kind word.

Not really. You may be in situations where your attention is needed 100% and it would not be prudent to be praying at that moment, so don’t get down on yourself. But, wherever you are, God is with you, so when you can give Him the attention He deserves, offer a prayer if you felt led to.
